What to prepare for an accurate custom building-product quotation

A checklist of drawings, measurements, finishes, site information and responsibilities needed for a useful custom-product quote.

A detailed enquiry receives a more useful quotation. The goal is not to produce perfect shop drawings before contacting a supplier, but to provide enough information to identify the product, interfaces, risks and decisions still required.

01

Provide the project basics

State the delivery suburb, customer type, project stage and required timing. Explain whether the enquiry is for budgeting, design development or manufacture.

  • Site suburb, state and postcode
  • New build, renovation or replacement
  • Target delivery month
  • Builder, owner-builder or homeowner contact
02

Upload the most relevant drawings

Plans and elevations show relationships that isolated dimensions may miss. Mark the product locations and include schedules where available.

  • Architectural plans and elevations
  • Window, door or finish schedules
  • Detail drawings and sections
  • Photos of existing site conditions
03

Describe operation, material and appearance

Two products with similar dimensions can have very different costs and technical requirements. State how the product operates, the privacy or performance objective and the preferred finish.

  • Sliding, hinged, fixed or folding
  • Glass, aluminium, steel, board or mixed material
  • Colour, texture and hardware finish
  • Reference photographs or inspiration images
04

Identify uncertain information

Do not hide dimensions or conditions that have not been verified. Clearly marking assumptions allows the quotation to separate provisional allowances from production requirements.

  • Estimated versus verified dimensions
  • Unknown substrate or fixing conditions
  • Pending engineering or approval
  • Selections still requiring samples

COMMON QUESTIONS

Quick answers.

Can I request a quote with only a photo?+

A photo can start a discussion, but dimensions, quantity, operation, finish and delivery information are normally required for meaningful pricing.

Can plans be uploaded through the website?+

Yes. Product and quotation pages allow customers to identify files and submit project information for review.

Will the quotation include installation?+

Installation is not included at this stage unless expressly stated otherwise.
